Understanding Annemann's comments from the Jinx

Hi everyone,

I've been working diligently on a couple of new projects and rewriting with new content all the old materials.

In the course of researching, I reread some of the early Jinx editions. In them Theo frequently appogises for being delayed on publishing his baby. I can understand his comments now and like him I apologize for the slipping frequency of posts.

I will be out of the country for two weeks with intermittent internet access, so I won't be posting. But, I will be continueing to finish the updated and completely rewritten snake charmer. The Snake Charmer will now include, in addition to the construction guide, proper instructions on how to properly write with ANY swami efficiently and legibly. Finally, the formats will be printed, epub, and PDF.

Finally, thank you for reading and please forgive any errors through this post as I am trying to use an app through my phone.

Lately, I've been receiving requests about how to improve performing across various venues. While each mentalism performance venue has different pro's and con's, there are some universal constants. These constants are those that are directly controlled by the performer. If acted upon, these tips will improve any performance, regardless if it be stage, parlor, or walk-around.

Have you ever watched a film or even TV muted, but still understood the story conveyed?

Recently I've been organizing my mentalism book and DVD collection into various categories. One day, while watching a DVD as I cataloged the phone rang with a telemarketer. Because I answered the call, I proceeded to mute the TV. While I sat there half listening to the sales pitch, I became focused on the screen. Much to my shock, this performer looked emotionless. All I could understand was he was talking with someone. No gestures, no facial expressions, nothing!

Pricing to Position: How to Get Your Asking Price!

Let's recap. In this previous post, we covered the main differences between the two major pricing models: Cost Plus and Value Pricing. It must be reiterated again, the first is a trading model, meaning we are trading hours (the performance) for dollars, and the latter focuses on the price paid for the value provided to the paying client.

There is a saying in finance,  "Cash is a fact and everything else is an opinion."

This is the truest form of defining value. By getting the client to state a specific price for their wants, needs, and desires. By doing so, we've converted the intangible into a real value for the client. Now all we have to do is position our services to satisfy the ask.

You've taken the plunge and opened up for business performing mentalism. What drove you to go out on your own no longer matters. You could have been laid off work or wanting to be your own boss, but right now your sitting there and your potential client drops the bomb on you!

“So how much is this going to cost me?”

Your heart starts racing and you feel your pulse quicken and temperature rise. Thoughts start popping in your head like:

What if I charge to much? Will I lose this deal?
I need this...I've got bills to pay!

So you stall by telling the prospect that you will come back to them with a proposal. With a silent sigh of relief you hear the response, “Okay, I look forward to seeing what you propose.”
